Barguna, Sept 23 (V7N) – A woman in Barguna Sadar upazila was arrested on Monday after chaining a rural electricity worker with an iron shackle and threatening him over an alleged inflated power bill. The incident took place in the Pakurgachhia area of Ayla-Patakata Union in the morning, police confirmed.
According to local sources and the Rural Electrification Office, the worker, identified as Das Shib Ratan, 55, a peon-cum-messenger of the Barguna Palli Bidyut Samity, went to deliver monthly bills when the customer, Sima Akhter, became enraged after noticing a charge 100 units higher than the previous month. In a fit of anger, she allegedly chained him and issued threats of assault.
Officials of the Palli Bidyut Samity quickly informed police, who rushed to the scene and rescued the worker. Sima Akhter was detained and taken into custody.
Barguna Police Station Officer-in-Charge, (OC) Md. Yakub Hossain said the woman was arrested for obstructing state duties. He added that she already has four previous cases pending against her. The Palli Bidyut Samity is also preparing to file a separate case in connection with the incident.
