Madaripur, Sept 23 (V7N) – Leaders of the Shibchar unit of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) submitted a memorandum to the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) on Monday morning, urging effective measures to curb the alarming spread of drugs and to raise public awareness.

The memorandum was handed over at 11:30 a.m. by Upazila BNP Convener Shahadat Hossain Khan, Member Secretary Sohel Rana, Joint Conveners Shahjahan Molla Saju, Motahar Hossain Hawlader, and Shahidul Islam Dipu, along with members Abu Zafar Chowdhury and Shahidul Islam (popularly known as Shahid Chairman). Several other party leaders and activists were also present during the submission at the UNO’s office.

In the written statement, the BNP leaders expressed deep concern over the increasing drug abuse in Shibchar, warning that the younger generation—particularly school and college students—was being pushed into addiction and facing a bleak future. They said the rise in drug consumption has led to widespread social unrest, including family disputes, theft, robbery, and other criminal activities.

The BNP leaders emphasized that strict enforcement of laws, immediate administrative action, and mass awareness campaigns were urgently required to address the situation. They further noted that effective control of narcotics would require a united effort involving families, social groups, political parties, and law enforcement agencies.

After receiving the memorandum, the Shibchar UNO assured the delegation that the administration would extend its full cooperation in combating drugs and implementing necessary measures to eliminate the menace from the upazila.
