Rajapur, Sept 16 (V7N) – Subsidized rice was distributed among impoverished families in Rajapur upazila of Jhalokathi under the government’s food-friendly program. On Monday morning, rice was sold at Tk 15 per kilogram across six unions, following the recent appointment of dealers through a public lottery process held on August 18 at the upazila parishad office. Officials said the recruitment was carried out transparently in the presence of local representatives and administration.
However, disputes have surfaced on social media, with allegations of irregularities in distribution. Nasir Uddin, a dealer from Saturia Union, dismissed the claims as politically motivated, accusing a failed dealer applicant of spreading false information after pressuring him for a share of the dealership. Villagers waiting in line confirmed that rice was being distributed fairly, though they noted delays due to large crowds.
Food Control Officer Shahinaz Parvin reiterated that distribution was being conducted properly across all unions and attributed the complaints to individuals dissatisfied with the dealer selection process.
