Jhalokathi, Sept 16 (V7N) – More than 3,000 consumers in Rajapur upazila of Jhalokathi district were left without electricity on Monday evening after a backbone power line pole caught fire following a short circuit.

The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. in a paddy field east of Malek College at Uttar Uttampur village under the Rajapur-1 substation’s feeder-4. According to officials, the insulator of the pole cracked, causing a short circuit that burned the pole and its fittings, shutting down all lines beyond pole number 99 of the backbone line.

Rural Electrification Board sources said restoring power immediately was difficult as transporting a replacement pole to the site was challenging due to waterlogged fields and the absence of proper access roads. Authorities noted that it might not be possible to replace the pole overnight. Contractors and technical staff are expected to carry out the replacement and resume power supply by Tuesday morning.

The outage has affected residents of Uttar Uttampur, Badurtala, Launchghat, Pukhurijana, Manki, and Mothbari villages, leaving nearly 3,000 consumers in distress.

The Rural Electrification Board expressed regret for the temporary disruption and assured consumers that every effort is being made to restore service as soon as possible.
