Jhalokathi, Sept 5 (V7N) – A large pothole has formed on the approach road to a Bailey bridge near a school in the Gazirhat area of Rajapur Upazila in Jhalokathi, raising serious concerns among local residents about potential accidents.

According to locals, the soil under the approach road has gradually eroded over the past few days, creating a sizable hole that poses a growing risk to vehicles using the bridge. Hundreds of vehicles, including motorcycles, rickshaws, and passenger transports, use the bridge daily, further exacerbating the danger.

Drivers say that navigating this section of the road requires extreme caution. The situation becomes even more hazardous at night due to poor visibility. Several minor accidents involving motorcycles and small vehicles have already occurred, resulting in injuries.

Residents have voiced frustration over the lack of response from the authorities. They claim the issue has persisted for a long time, but no repair work has been undertaken. Concerned about the possibility of a serious incident, local people have placed red warning flags near the damaged area to alert drivers.

Despite repeated appeals, the local administration has yet to initiate repairs. Residents are urging immediate action to fix the road and prevent what they fear could become a tragic accident.
