Sylhet, Sept 4 (V7N) - Ataur Rahman, widely known as “Kala Mia,” the founder and publisher of the Weekly Sylhet’s Tottho, passed away at his residence in Kanaishail village, Dhakadakshin Union, Golapganj, on Wednesday morning at 10:00 AM. He had been suffering from long-term complications following a brain stroke that left him partially paralyzed.
 
Ataur Rahman was the son of the late Haji Habibur Rahman. He is survived by his wife, one son, two daughters, and many relatives and well-wishers. A respected figure in regional journalism, Rahman had been publishing Sylhet’s Tottho since 2000, earning a reputation for consistency and community-centered reporting.
 
His funeral prayer was held after Asr prayers at the madrasa field in Dhakadakshin Bazar, followed by his burial at the family graveyard. Local residents from all walks of life attended the funeral to pay their final respects.
 
In a statement of condolence, the Greater Sylhet District Online Press Club (GSOPC) expressed profound grief at his passing. The organization’s president, Abul Kashem Rumon—editor of Weekly Boichitromoy Sylhet and Bangladesh correspondent for On TV News—and general secretary Akhtar Hossain offered their sympathies to the bereaved family and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul.
 
The press club leadership praised Ataur Rahman’s contribution to local media and described his death as a significant loss to the journalistic community in Sylhet.
