MONGLA, Sept 08 (V7N) — Police have arrested a 22-year-old man in Mongla, Bagerhat, on allegations of fraudulently posing as senior government officials, including fake RAB and army officers, and raping a schoolgirl.
The arrested man, identified as Parvez Bepari, was detained in front of Bonoful Sweets opposite the Mongla Municipal Market in Mongla town around noon on Monday. He is the son of Sakhawat Bepari of Boyra Road No. 23 in Khulna city.
According to police and the case statement, Parvez allegedly used artificial intelligence technology to pose as a senior government official. Under the false identity, he developed a relationship with a school-going girl from Pirojpur and allegedly staged a fake marriage before sexually abusing her over a prolonged period.
The case statement also alleges that the two stayed overnight at different places while presenting themselves as husband and wife.
After the alleged deception came to light to the girl’s family, her mother, Nilufa Begum, filed a rape case with Kaukhali Police Station in Pirojpur.
Following the filing of the case, Parvez reportedly fled Khulna and went into hiding in Mongla. Based on information from the case, police tracked his mobile phone and arrested him with assistance from Mongla Police.
Kaukhali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Anwar Hossain said a team led by SI Mohiuddin and ASI Khairul Hasan, with assistance from Mongla Police, arrested Parvez from in front of Bonoful Sweets in Mongla town following a tip-off.
After completing the necessary legal procedures, police left for Pirojpur with the arrested man later in the afternoon.
The OC also said allegations of similar fraud involving several women had been made against Parvez. Police are investigating the allegations and said further legal action would be taken if evidence is found.
