Pabna, Nov 02 (V7N) — A shocking incident unfolded in Pabna’s Sadar upazila on Sunday night when a man was hacked to death by his drug-addicted son while offering prayers at home. The victim was identified as Nizam Pramanik, 60, a farmer from Puraton Bhaduradangi village under Chartarapur Union.
According to police and family sources, Nizam returned home in the evening after selling milk at the local market. After dinner, he stood for the Isha prayer when his son, Mostafa Pramanik, allegedly locked the door from inside and attacked him with a machete, killing him on the spot. After committing the crime, Mostafa reportedly locked himself inside another room and remained there until police arrived.
Upon being informed, local residents and relatives called the police. Officers recovered the body and arrested Mostafa from the scene. However, during the arrest, Mostafa resisted violently, injuring three police sub-inspectors — Abu Bakar Siddique, Ziaur Rahman, and Abu Raihan. Among them, SI Ziaur Rahman was admitted to Sujanagar Upazila Health Complex, while the other two received primary treatment.
Nizam’s other son, Mizanur Rahman, told reporters that his brother had long been addicted to drugs and frequently demanded money from family members. “If he didn’t get money, he would vandalize things at home. Earlier, he had even attacked me with a wooden stick. Today, before killing our father, he searched for me with a machete,” Mizanur added.
Pabna Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdus Salam confirmed the incident, saying that the body had been recovered and sent for autopsy. “The accused is in custody, and further legal action is underway,” he said, adding that a police team remains at the crime scene to complete the investigation.
