Munshiganj, Oct 16 (V7N) – Police have arrested three members of the “Russel Bahini” gang in connection with a viral video showing four young men receiving firearms training near Srinagar College in Munshiganj. The arrests took place around 2:00 AM on Tuesday during a raid at a rented flat in Mirerbagh, South Keraniganj, following an operation launched by district police.
The detainees were identified as Russel Hawlader of Madhya Baghra, Sakhawat Bepari of the same area, and Tarek Khan of Patabhog village, all residents of Srinagar in Munshiganj. Police said the arrests followed the circulation of a video showing the group displaying and attempting to fire illegal weapons, which drew widespread attention on social media.
A police statement issued Wednesday afternoon confirmed that, acting on orders from the Superintendent of Police, a team tracked down the suspects’ location in Keraniganj and later recovered the illegal firearm based on information from the arrestees. The viral video, approximately one minute and eight seconds long, was reportedly recorded last May near the northeast corner pond of Srinagar College. It shows four men, two holding pistols, discussing how to load and shoot the weapon before firing a round into the air.
Authorities said the individuals in the video are members of the “Russel-Faisal Bahini,” a known local criminal network operating in Srinagar. Police sources described them as listed criminals involved in various illicit activities while remaining in hiding for months.
Srinagar Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nazmul Huda stated that the area is now calm, suggesting the old video may have been circulated recently to create unrest. Munshiganj Superintendent of Police Shamsul Alam Sarker confirmed that three suspects have been arrested while operations continue to apprehend others involved. He also noted that Russel Hawlader had previously suffered severe injuries to both eyes during a rival gang attack.
