Teknaf, Sept 23 (V7N) – Members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized 124,000 yaba pills worth an estimated Tk 3 crore 72 lakh during an operation at the Marichya joint checkpoint on the Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf highway Tuesday afternoon. One suspect was arrested in connection with the haul.
The detainee was identified as Umar Rahin Arfat, 26, son of late Selim from the Poshchim Soloshahar area under Chandgaon Police Station in Chattogram. He was handed over to Ramu Police Station in the evening following the seizure.
The raid was conducted around 4 p.m. at the Marichya checkpoint in Ukhiya upazila. According to officials, Arfat initially denied carrying yaba, but during a detailed search the pills were recovered. He later revealed the names of several of his accomplices during primary interrogation.
Lt. Col. Kazi Mahtab Uddin Ahmed, commanding officer of Ramu Battalion (30 BGB), said the force remains committed to preventing narcotics smuggling and cross-border crimes in the region. He added that operations will continue to ensure border areas are free from drugs and to help maintain law and order.
The Ramu Battalion has previously carried out a series of successful anti-smuggling and anti-narcotics operations, which BGB officials say are aimed at creating a safer environment for the community.
