Apr 07 (V7N) - BNP Secretary General and Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, has flown to Singapore for a routine health check-up. He left Dhaka late Monday night, accompanied by his wife Rahat Ara Begum, on a Singapore Airlines flight from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
According to his Assistant Private Secretary Md. Younus Ali, Fakhrul’s departure was scheduled at 11:55 pm. He is expected to remain in Singapore for about a week before returning home.
The BNP leader has been making regular visits to Singapore for medical follow-ups since 2015. That year, while in prison, doctors diagnosed him with a blockage in an artery in his neck, prompting his first trip abroad for treatment after his release.
Since then, Singapore has become his trusted destination for ongoing medical care and monitoring. His periodic check-ups there are considered part of his long-term health management plan.
Fakhrul’s latest trip underscores the continuity of his treatment routine, reflecting both his reliance on Singapore’s healthcare system and the importance of maintaining his health while balancing his political responsibilities in Bangladesh.
