Teknaf, Sept 19 (V7N) – A joint operation by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Teknaf’s Subrang Union led to the seizure of 340,000 yaba pills and the arrest of a Myanmar national on Wednesday.
The arrested individual has been identified as Omar Siddique, 28, son of Md. Osman from Kharangkhali, Mandoo, Myanmar. He was handed over to Teknaf Model Police Station on Thursday afternoon, according to BGB officials.
At a press conference held at the Teknaf Battalion headquarters at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Ashiqur Rahman confirmed the operation. Based on confidential intelligence, a joint RAB-15 and 2 BGB Teknaf Battalion team conducted a raid on the evening of September 17 in a mangrove area near Switch Gate, Subrang Union. Authorities had learned that several individuals were present to receive a large consignment of drugs crossing the border.
During the operation, Omar Siddique was apprehended along with 340,000 yaba pills, while his accomplices managed to flee. Legal proceedings under the Narcotics Control Act are underway against the arrested suspect.
Officials highlighted the operation as a successful example of coordinated action by RAB and BGB to prevent cross-border drug trafficking in the region.
