Mongla, Aug 26 (V7N) – The Bangladesh Coast Guard has seized 850 kilograms of illegally harvested crabs from the Sundarbans during a raid in the Kapotaksha River area near Gharilal Bazar. The operation was carried out on Monday afternoon based on a tip-off.

Lieutenant Commander Muntasir Ibn Mohsin, Media Officer of the Coast Guard’s Western Zone (Mongla), confirmed the information on Tuesday morning. During the operation, Coast Guard personnel searched a wooden engine-run boat and recovered the illegal consignment of crabs, which carries an estimated market value of Tk 3,82,500.

Sensing the presence of the authorities, the traffickers abandoned the boat and fled the scene, and no arrests were made.

The seized crabs and the boat were handed over to the Forest Department’s Kobadak Forest Office for further action.

Lt. Cmdr. Muntasir stated that the Coast Guard will continue such operations to protect the country’s forest and marine resources.
