Ukhiya, July 25 (V7N) — In a special operation conducted early Friday morning in Kutupalong area of Ukhiya, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) apprehended a notorious fugitive accused in multiple cases of robbery, murder, extortion, and other serious crimes.
The arrested individual has been identified as Md. Anwarul Islam Prokash Anu Salam, 35, son of the late Abul Kashem from Falia Para village, Rajapalong Union, Ukhiya. Along with the suspect, RAB recovered two one-shooter firearms, seven live rounds of ammunition, and one empty cartridge.
Following his arrest, Anwarul Islam was handed over to Ukhiya Police Station for further legal action. According to the police, he is currently wanted in nine separate criminal cases filed at Ukhiya Thana, including robbery, extortion, and murder.
RAB-15 Assistant Police Superintendent and Assistant Director (Law and Media Officer) A.M. Faruk stated in a press release that the operation targeted this fugitive for his involvement in a wide range of criminal activities including extortion, drug trafficking, armed robbery, and violent clashes.
Anwarul Islam Prokash Anu Salam has been implicated in offenses such as illegal possession of arms, attempted murder, unlawful occupation of forest land, and intimidation of local residents. Reports indicate that during previous government tenures, he colluded with political affiliates to seize government forest land, construct houses illegally, and intimidate local communities through extortion, robbery, and kidnapping.
Ukhiya Police Station Officer-in-Charge, (OC) Mohammad Arif Hossain confirmed that the arrested man faces multiple charges, including robbery and violent altercations, under the jurisdiction of Ukhiya Police.
This arrest is expected to be a significant blow to organized crime and lawlessness in the region, particularly in the vulnerable forest-adjacent communities of Cox’s Bazar.
