Dhaka, Jun 03 (V7N) – Sohel Rana, the main accused in the Ramisa rape and murder case, has pleaded guilty in court and expressed an apology, while also claiming that his wife Swapna Khatun is innocent.

He made the statement during the hearing of the accused’s defense before Dhaka Metropolitan Child Violence Prevention Tribunal Judge Masrur Salekin on Wednesday (June 3) after 11 am.

At the start of the hearing, the court read out the charges against the accused along with witness statements. Following this, Sohel Rana admitted responsibility for the rape and murder of 8-year-old Ramisa.

However, he told the court that his wife Swapna Khatun had no involvement in the incident. He also demanded legal action against another individual named “Dollar,” alleging his involvement in the crime.

Earlier, the testimony phase of the case concluded just one day after charges were framed. A total of 16 witnesses, including members of Ramisa’s family, police officers and magistrates, provided testimony. Their statements reportedly revealed disturbing details about the killing.

The victim’s family has demanded exemplary punishment for those responsible for the child’s murder as the case moves toward the next stage of legal proceedings.
