Dhaka, Apr 12 (V7N) – A Dhaka court has granted bail to former Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury in a case filed over an alleged attempted murder during the July Movement.
The order was issued on Sunday by the court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Zakir Hossain, who granted bail on a bond of Tk 50,000 following a hearing.
Earlier, law enforcement agencies arrested Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury from a relative’s residence in the capital in the early hours of April 7. She was subsequently produced before the court and sent to jail.
The case stems from an incident on July 18 last year, when Md. Ashraful, also known as Fahim, was shot during a procession in the Azimpur Government Colony area amid the anti-discrimination movement. He sustained severe injuries, including the loss of vision in his left eye.
Legal proceedings in the case, filed with Lalbagh Police Station, are currently ongoing.
