Dhaka, Nov 12 (V7N) — The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has begun hearing a petition seeking permission to appeal against the dismissal of a writ petition that challenged the validity of the reference and opinion process sent to the Supreme Court regarding the formation and oath of the interim government.
The hearing, held on Wednesday (November 12), is being conducted by a full seven-member appellate bench headed by Chief Justice Dr. Syed Refaat Ahmed. Senior Supreme Court lawyer Mohammad Mohsin Rashid is leading the arguments in the case.
Earlier, in December last year, advocate Mohsin filed a writ petition in the High Court, questioning the legality of the interim government’s oath. The High Court, however, dismissed the petition, observing that since the interim government had received legitimacy from the people, its validity could not be questioned.
Following the dismissal, the petitioner filed an application in the Appellate Division seeking permission to appeal the verdict.
