Dhaka, Oct 27 (V7N)- A writ petition has been filed in the High Court seeking directives for ensuring quality control and proper maintenance of the bearing pads used in the metro rail and flyovers across the capital, following Sunday’s tragic incident near Farmgate.

The writ was filed on Monday (October 27) by lawyer Abdullah Al Mamun in the relevant branch of the High Court.

A bench comprising Justice Fahmida Quader and Justice Asif Hossain is scheduled to hear the petition on Tuesday, according to court sources.

The petition calls for the formation of a high-level committee to oversee and monitor the quality, inspection, and maintenance of metro rail infrastructure. It also seeks similar directives regarding the maintenance and safety standards of flyovers in Dhaka.

In his submission, the petitioner stated that records and photographs of previous accidents related to structural components would be presented before the court during the hearing.

The move comes a day after a pedestrian named Abul Kalam (35) was killed and two others injured when a bearing pad detached and fell from a metro rail pillar near Farmgate on Sunday afternoon (October 26).
