Dhaka, May 14 (V7N) – The High Court has granted bail to Dr. Zobaida Rahman, wife of BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman, in a case involving charges of acquiring undeclared assets and concealing asset information. The court also accepted her appeal against the three-year prison sentence for hearing.

The order was issued by a single bench of Justice Md. Khasruzzaman on Wednesday morning.

Prominent lawyers SM Shahjahan, Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon, and Barrister Kaiser Kamal represented Zobaida Rahman during the hearing.

Following the hearing, SM Shahjahan stated that the case was filed with the intention of political harassment. He argued that the charges were baseless and motivated by malice.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) had filed the case on September 26, 2007, at Kafrul Police Station in Dhaka against Tarique Rahman, Zobaida Rahman, and her mother Syeda Iqbal Mand Banu. The case accused them of concealing wealth information and illegally amassing assets beyond known sources of income.

With the bail granted and the appeal admitted, the legal battle surrounding the case now shifts to the appellate process in the High Court.
