Dhaka, Oct 26 (V7N) — Another mysterious death has shaken Old Dhaka after the body of a teenage student was discovered on the staircase of his girlfriend’s house in Bangshal on Saturday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Sajib (19), a recent Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinee from Ahmed Bawani Academy School and College. According to police, his body was found lying face down on the fourth-floor staircase of a house at 93/1 Agamsi Lane, with a GI wire wrapped tightly around his neck.

Sub-Inspector (SI) Md. Dulal Haque of Bangshal Police Station confirmed the incident, saying, “We recovered the body after locals reported it in the afternoon. Initially, the body was unidentified, but later confirmed through his mobile phone. The neck was entangled with a GI wire, and the fourth floor of the building—where the body was found—was locked from the outside. The rest of the building is used as a warehouse, with only one family living on that floor.”

He added that initial evidence suggests Sajib was strangled to death. The body has been sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy, and police have launched an intensive investigation.

At the hospital, Sajib’s cousin Md. Islam told reporters that Sajib had failed his HSC exams and had recently returned home from a religious outing in Dohar. “He left home around 3 p.m. after getting a phone call. Later in the evening, we learned that his body was found on the stairs of a house,” Islam said.

He added that the house where the body was found belongs to Sajib’s girlfriend Khadija’s family. “Khadija’s father is deceased, and none of her family members could be found after the incident. Sajib had been in a relationship with Khadija for about six years, although her uncles, Iqbal and Kamal, never accepted it,” he claimed.

The victim’s family alleged that Khadija’s uncles, Iqbal and Kamal, were involved in Sajib’s murder.

The case echoes a similar incident that occurred just a week earlier on October 19, when Jagannath University Chhatra Dal leader Zubayed was found dead on a staircase in the Armanitola area of Old Dhaka. Police later termed that killing the result of a “love triangle.”

Authorities are now probing whether the latest tragedy in Bangshal is linked to similar motives or patterns emerging across Old Dhaka.
