Dhaka, Oct 07 (V7N)- President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said differences of opinion, constructive criticism and peaceful protests are essential features of democratic politics.
He made the remarks while meeting a delegation from Haji Mohammad Danesh University of Science and Technology at Bangabhaban on Wednesday morning.
The President said a culture of revenge in politics obstructs the development and consolidation of democracy.
During the meeting, Vice Chancellor Professor Dr M Enamullah briefed the President on the university's overall academic activities and development.
He said around 15,000 students are currently studying at the university. He also informed the President that the government has allocated Tk 600 crore for infrastructure development.
The Vice Chancellor sought the President's cooperation in addressing several challenges, including filling vacant teaching posts and resolving the shortage of accommodation for female students.
The President assured the delegation of his cooperation in resolving the problems raised during the meeting.
He also stressed the importance of maintaining the quality of education at the university to help expand higher education opportunities in the relatively underdeveloped northern region of the country.
The President further said he would attend the university's upcoming convocation if invited.
The meeting focused on the university's academic development, infrastructure and broader efforts to strengthen higher education in northern Bangladesh.
