Dhaka, Sep 24 (V7N)- Deputy Speaker of the National Parliament Barrister Kaiser Kamal has called for building a merit-based Bangladesh, saying talented students should receive proper recognition regardless of political affiliation.
He made the remarks on Thursday morning (September 24) while addressing the freshers’ reception ceremony of the Department of Zoology at Dhaka University.
Kamal said many meritorious students at Dhaka University were deprived of due recognition during the previous era because of partisan influence, despite their talent and academic potential.
He said the country’s focus should now shift away from violence and bullets on the streets toward building a peaceful and beautiful Bangladesh based on merit and competence.
The Deputy Speaker said Dhaka University students have historically played a leading role during major national movements, including the Language Movement, the Liberation War and the mass uprising of 2024.
He urged the newly admitted students to uphold the university’s legacy while developing their talents, skills and competence.
Addressing the students, Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam stressed the importance of valuing time and using it effectively.
He also called on the students to pursue academic excellence while maintaining empathy, cooperation and a sense of responsibility toward others.
