Dhaka, Aug 22 (V7N)- The parliamentary seat of Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, elected from Thakurgaon-1 constituency, has been declared vacant after he assumed office as the 23rd President of Bangladesh.

The National Parliament Secretariat issued a notification in this regard on Saturday (August 22), signed by Barrister Md. Golam Sarwar Bhuiyan, Secretary of the Legislative Support Wing (Legislative Branch-2).

According to the notification, Mirza Fakhrul assumed the duties of the President of Bangladesh on Friday (August 21). Consequently, his parliamentary seat became vacant from the date he assumed the presidential office in accordance with Article 50(4) of the Constitution.

The notification has been sent to the Government Printing Office for immediate publication in an additional issue of the Bangladesh Gazette.

A copy has also been sent to the Senior Secretary of the Election Commission Secretariat, directing the relevant authorities to take necessary steps to arrange a by-election for the vacant Thakurgaon-1 seat.
