Dhaka, Aug 20 (V7N)- The government is not worried despite several diseases, including measles and dengue, being reported simultaneously, Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain has said.
He said the government is making maximum efforts to deal with the situation and protect public health.
The minister made the remarks while inaugurating the national-level Oral Cholera Vaccination Campaign-2026 at the auditorium of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) on Thursday (August 20) morning.
Sakhawat Hossain said thousands of people used to die from cholera in the past, but the disease has been brought largely under control through various government initiatives.
However, he said the government has launched the oral cholera vaccination campaign with the goal of eliminating cholera. The target is to bring everyone aged one year and above under the vaccination programme.
According to the minister, the first dose of the vaccine will be administered in 14 upazilas from August 22 to September 21. The second dose will be given after a 14-day interval, from September 26 to October 25.
The vaccine will be available to everyone aged one year and above. However, pregnant women, people with a history of severe allergic reactions to any component of the vaccine and those suffering from severe infections will not be eligible for vaccination.
The programme was presided over by DSCC Administrator Md. Abdus Salam.
