Dhaka, May 13 (V7N) – Voting has begun for the 2026–27 term executive committee election of the Supreme Court Bar Association, with polling starting at 10:00 am on Wednesday at the Supreme Court Bar Auditorium.

The two-day voting process will continue until 5:00 pm each day, with a one-hour break from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm.

The election is being contested among three major panels: the BNP-backed “blue panel,” the Jamaat-e-Islami-backed “green panel,” and the NCP-backed “red-green panel.”

However, candidates from the Jamaat and NCP-supported panels have raised concerns over the fairness of the voting process on the first day, alleging irregularities. In contrast, BNP-backed lawyers have stated that the election is proceeding without any political influence.

Pro-BNP lawyer Advocate Zainul Abedin said the voting is being conducted in a transparent manner and denied allegations of interference.

Meanwhile, Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair of the Jamaat-backed panel said the election would help resolve lawyers’ issues and ensure smoother judicial administration at the Supreme Court.

The Awami League-backed panel is not participating in this year’s election, having announced a boycott. The party alleged that nomination papers of 41 pro-Awami candidates were rejected without proper verification.

A total of 14 posts, including president and secretary of the executive committee, are up for election. According to officials, 11,097 voters are eligible to cast their ballots in the contest.
