Dhaka, Apr 23 (V7N) — Leader of the Opposition in Parliament and Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has said the ongoing energy crisis is not created by the current government, but acknowledged shortcomings in demand management.
Remarks in Parliament
Speaking during a session of the National Parliament on Wednesday, he urged both the government and opposition to focus on public welfare rather than engaging in blame or character attacks.
“The energy crisis is a problem. We have already said that it is not created by our government. But there have been several problems in demand management,” he stated.
Support for rationing, warning against misuse
Dr. Rahman said fuel rationing is a reasonable precaution under the current circumstances. However, he called for strict action against those exploiting the situation.
He emphasized that dishonest individuals should not be given shelter under any political affiliation and must be held accountable.
Call for cooperation
Highlighting the need for unity, the opposition leader proposed a joint initiative between the government and opposition to address the crisis.
He said such cooperation would:
-
Strengthen democratic practices
-
Build public confidence
-
Create a more positive outlook among citizens
Proposal for joint committee
Dr. Rahman also expressed willingness from the opposition side to support the formation of a joint committee to deal with the energy crisis, assuring a positive response if the government takes such an initiative.
