Dhaka, Feb 23 (V7N)- Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has announced that the government will begin the recruitment process for 2,701 constables to fill vacant positions. He made the announcement following a meeting with heads of various law enforcement agencies at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Monday (February 23).

The minister emphasized that SP-OC transfers in the police force, which were previously made through lottery during the interim government, will now be properly verified and selected. He said that irregularities in police recruitment under the previous administration will be investigated, ensuring that no one is harassed, and that Sub-Inspectors (SIs) deprived of recruitment in 2006 will receive justice.

Improving law and order is the government’s first priority, Salahuddin Ahmed said. All weapons licenses issued during the previous government will be reviewed to verify eligibility; licenses obtained for political or criminal purposes will be canceled, and weapons will be confiscated.

He added that the police will operate without interference, remain accountable, and cannot issue any protocol outside the law.

The Home Minister also addressed harassment cases filed after August 5, including against businessmen, stating that verified cases will be withdrawn. He mentioned that a new commission will be formed to investigate the BDR mutiny.

On public order, he warned that mob culture is over, and blocking roads without legitimate demands will result in strict action.

Additionally, the government plans to outsource services in passport offices and land services to private helpers, which will reduce harassment and create employment opportunities.
