Dhaka, Feb 17 (V7N) — The elected members of parliament from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and independent candidates in the 13th National Parliament election took oath on Tuesday, along with the oath as members of the Constitutional Reform Commission.
The oath-taking ceremony was held at the oath room of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban shortly after 12 noon. The proceedings began with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by the formal swearing-in.
Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin administered the oath to the newly elected lawmakers.
Earlier in the day, MPs elected from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) had taken oath at around 10:45 am, with the Chief Election Commissioner also presiding over that ceremony.
The swearing-in of Jamaat and independent lawmakers — including their simultaneous oath to the Constitutional Reform Commission — marks a notable divergence in approach among parliamentary groups regarding participation in the proposed reform body.
