Dhaka, Jan 20 (V7N) — The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has arrested Syed Sohanur Rahman, son of former Bangladesh Public Service Commission (PSC) driver Syed Abed Ali Jiban, on charges of amassing illegal wealth and involvement in question paper leakage.

ACC Public Relations Officer Md. Akhtarul Islam confirmed the arrest on Tuesday (January 20).

Syed Sohanur Rahman, also known as Siam, previously served as Relief and Disaster Management Secretary of the banned Chhatra League’s Dhaka Metropolitan North unit. He was expelled from the organization after his name surfaced in the PSC question paper leak scandal.

Earlier, on January 5, 2025, the ACC filed three separate cases against Syed Abed Ali Jiban, his wife Shahrin Akhter Shilpi, and their son Syed Sohanur Rahman Siam, accusing them of acquiring illegal assets worth Tk 5.37 crore and conducting suspicious financial transactions totaling approximately Tk 450 crore. Siam was shown arrested in connection with those cases on Tuesday.

In July 2024, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police arrested 17 individuals, including Syed Abed Ali Jiban, over the leakage of PSC question papers. Following the arrests, the ACC initiated a detailed investigation into allegations of corruption and illegal wealth accumulation.

It is noteworthy that Abed Ali and his son were earlier arrested for their alleged involvement in the question paper leak of the recruitment examination for the post of Deputy Assistant Engineer of Bangladesh Railway.

The ACC said further legal proceedings are underway as part of the ongoing investigation.
