Chuadanga, Jan 13 (V7N)- Shamsuzzaman Dablu, general secretary of Jibannagar Municipality BNP in Chuadanga, died during a joint forces operation late Sunday night. The Bangladesh Army has issued an official explanation regarding the incident.
According to a statement published on the Army’s verified Facebook page, a joint forces team conducted a special operation around 11:00 pm on January 12 in Jibannagar Upazila based on specific intelligence information aimed at recovering illegal weapons.
During the operation, Shamsuzzaman Dablu was arrested from a pharmacy located adjacent to the Jibannagar Upazila Health Complex on allegations of possessing illegal arms. Following his arrest, the joint patrol team carried out a search of the pharmacy based on information provided by him and recovered one pistol, one magazine, and four rounds of ammunition, the statement said.
After the operation, Dablu reportedly became suddenly ill and lost consciousness. He was immediately taken to the Jibannagar Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty physician declared him dead at around 12:25 am.
The Army described the incident as “unexpected, sad, and unacceptable in any way.” As part of immediate measures, the camp commander and all army personnel involved in the operation have been withdrawn to the cantonment.
A high-level investigation committee has been formed to determine the exact cause of death. The Army stated that appropriate legal action will be taken under military law against anyone found responsible following the investigation.
