Dhaka, Dec 28 (V7N) — Zubair Rahman Chowdhury was sworn in as the 26th Chief Justice of Bangladesh on Sunday morning.
President Md Shahabuddin administered the oath of office to him at Bangabhaban at 10:30 am. The ceremony was attended by Chief Advisor Dr Muhammad Yunus and former Chief Justice Syed Refat Ahmed, who recently retired. The event was broadcast live on Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar.
President Shahabuddin appointed Zubair Rahman Chowdhury as Chief Justice on December 24, and his appointment formally took effect following the oath-taking ceremony.
Zubair Rahman Chowdhury began his legal career as an advocate enrolled in the Judges’ Court in 1985 and the High Court Division in 1987. On August 27, 2003, he was appointed as an additional judge of the High Court Division, and his position was made permanent two years later.
On August 12, 2024, he was elevated to the Appellate Division by President Md Shahabuddin.
Chief Justice Chowdhury obtained his LLB (Honours) and LLM degrees from the University of Dhaka. He later completed a Master’s degree in International Law in the United Kingdom.
