Dhaka, Dec 23 (V7N)- Justice Jubayer Rahman Chowdhury is set to be appointed as the 26th Chief Justice of Bangladesh. He is scheduled to take oath on December 28, replacing the incumbent Chief Justice Dr. Syed Refaat Ahmed, who is retiring upon reaching the constitutional age limit.

According to sources, a gazette notification regarding Justice Chowdhury’s appointment will be published later this week. As per the Constitution, the current Chief Justice Dr. Syed Refaat Ahmed, the country’s 25th Chief Justice, will retire on December 27 after completing 67 years of age.

Justice Jubayer Rahman Chowdhury began his legal career in 1985, enrolling as a lawyer in the Judges’ Court, and was admitted to the High Court Division of the Supreme Court in 1987. On August 27, 2003, he was appointed as an additional judge of the High Court Division, and two years later his position was made permanent.

On August 12, 2024, President Mohammad Shahabuddin appointed him as a judge of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court.

Justice Chowdhury completed his LLB (Honours) and LLM degrees from the University of Dhaka, and later earned a Master’s degree in International Law from the United Kingdom.
