Dhaka, Dec 15 (V7N) — The Election Commission (EC) has instructed Divisional Commissioners, Regional Election Officers, Deputy Commissioners and Returning Officers to ensure a peaceful and disciplined electoral environment during the pre-election period of the upcoming 13th National Parliament Election.
The directive was issued in a letter signed by the Deputy Secretary of the Election Management-2 Branch of the EC Secretariat on Sunday (December 14).
According to the letter, the schedule for the 13th National Parliament Election and Referendum was announced on December 11, and voting is set to take place on February 12, 2026.
The EC stated that under Rule 18 of the Code of Conduct for Political Parties and Candidates in Parliamentary Elections, 2025, election campaigning may be carried out from three weeks prior to polling day until 48 hours before the start of voting, provided all prescribed rules and conditions are followed.
The letter further clarified that outside the designated campaign period, political parties and individuals may organize national or international day observances, as well as religious, social and other events, as long as such activities do not disrupt the electoral environment and strictly comply with the Code of Conduct.
However, the EC emphasized that prior consent or permission from the concerned Returning Officer is mandatory for organizing any such event during the pre-election period.
The directive aims to prevent any disruption to the electoral atmosphere and ensure a free, fair and orderly election process across the country.
