Dhaka, Dec 09 (V7N) — Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Abdul Momen has urged voters not to elect corrupt and money-hungry individuals in the upcoming national election, saying that public rejection of such candidates would significantly reduce corruption in the country.
He made the remarks while speaking at the inauguration of a day-long program marking International Anti-Corruption Day on Tuesday.
The ACC chairman said corruption has spread to every layer of society, making it difficult to eradicate completely. In this situation, he emphasized the crucial role of youth participation in resisting corruption.
“Every day feels like a festival for corrupt people. But with even one day of strong initiative by anti-corruption activists, it is possible to rein them in,” he said.
The day’s events began in the morning with the hoisting of the national flag and release of balloons at the ACC headquarters in Segunbagicha. Later, an anti-corruption awareness human chain was organized with the participation of the ACC and various government and private organizations.
International Anti-Corruption Day is observed every year to raise public awareness and promote actions against corruption worldwide.
