Dhaka, Dec 07 (V7N) — The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has announced that the bodies of unidentified martyrs of the July Movement buried at the Rayerbazar graveyard will be exhumed for DNA testing following international standards.
CID Chief Additional IGP Md. Chibgat Ullah disclosed this information during a briefing on Sunday morning, detailing the steps to identify the victims who were killed during the July Movement.
“We are beginning the identification process from today,” he said. “It is not yet possible to estimate how long the entire process will take. We believe there are 114 unidentified bodies buried in this graveyard.”
He added that once DNA profiling is completed and if any identity is confirmed, the remains will be handed over to the respective families upon request.
The CID will conduct the exhumation and DNA sampling according to international forensic protocols, ensuring accuracy and proper documentation throughout the process.
