Dhaka, Oct 25 (V7N) — The average per capita income in Bangladesh stands at $2,820, while the per capita income of residents in Dhaka is significantly higher at $5,163, according to the Economic Status Index released by the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI).
The business organization presented the findings at a program held at its office in Motijheel, Dhaka, on Saturday.
The survey revealed that Dhaka contributes 46 percent of the country’s GDP and provides 40 percent of total employment. The capital is home to more than 11 percent of Bangladesh’s population, the highest urban concentration in Asia.
The study also highlighted the city’s dominance in trade and industry: 40 percent of total exports come from Dhaka, while 365 companies control 56 percent of the total production sector. In the service sector, 289 companies hold the majority, and 214 companies account for 58 percent of ready-made garment production.
The DCCI report underscores Dhaka’s pivotal role in the national economy and emphasizes the concentration of wealth and industrial activity in the capital.
