Dhaka, Sep 01 (V7N) – Ahead of the 13th National Parliament Election, the Election Commission (EC) has identified 2,049 polling stations across the country as unusable, requiring urgent repairs and boundary construction.
According to a report prepared by Md. Altaf Hossain, Chief Engineer of the Department of Education Engineering, an estimated Tk 110.27 crore will be needed for renovation and safety upgrades.
The report states that repairs for 1,490 educational institutions under the Secondary and Higher Education Department will cost Tk 33.78 crore. In addition, constructing boundary walls in 559 institutions has been estimated at Tk 76.48 crore.
The Department of Education Engineering has already sent a letter to the Education Secretary seeking allocation of the funds, with a copy forwarded to the Election Commission.
Earlier, the EC wrote to the Ministry of Education stressing the urgency of renovating polling stations to ensure a smooth and secure election process.
