DHAKA, June 8, (V7N) – Bangladesh, like other nations worldwide, will observe World Accreditation Day 2025 tomorrow.

This year's theme for the day is ‘Accreditation: Empowering Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs)’, as stated in a handout from the Press Information Department (PID) today.

On the eve of the day, Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus issued a message, extending his greetings to all stakeholders and wishing for the day's success.

In his message, the Chief Adviser (CA) expressed his pleasure that Bangladesh is joining other countries in observing World Accreditation Day.

He remarked, “This year’s theme of the day appears to me as time befitting.” He further elaborated that the accreditation system plays a crucial role in addressing the challenges faced by SME enterprises. This is achieved by ensuring quality across all levels of the product and service supply chain through the development of national quality infrastructure, fostering skilled technical manpower, removing technical barriers to trade, and creating opportunities for entry into international markets.

“A large part of our gross domestic product (GDP) comes from the SME sector. The role of this sector is also very important in creating new jobs,” he added.

The CA noted that SME enterprises consistently encounter challenges such as barriers to entry into international markets, evolving customer and consumer demands, and financial constraints. He emphasized the need for a collective global initiative to address all these challenges.

Dr. Yunus highlighted that the Bangladesh Accreditation Board (BAB), since its inception, has been working towards this goal. He stated that the BAB has so far awarded accreditation certificates to a total of 155 government, private, and multinational organizations—including various laboratories, diagnostic centers, certification bodies, and inspection bodies—in accordance with international standards.

He affirmed that the current interim government, formed through the July mass uprising, is very sincere in promoting the development of medium and small industries in the country. He urged the BAB to continue its positive role in fostering sustainable industrialization, trade, and investment for desired development.
