Dhaka, May 21 (V7N) — To ensure safe travel during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha, bulkhead movement on waterways will be suspended for a total of 10 days — three days before Eid and seven days after.

This announcement was made by Shipping Advisor Brigadier General (Retd.) M Sakhawat Hossain during a meeting held at the Secretariat on Wednesday afternoon with officials from the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) and launch owners regarding Eid travel arrangements.

Brig. Gen. Hossain also revealed plans to launch a new waterway route connecting Roumari to Chilmari in North Bengal ahead of Eid. Two ferries will operate on this route, providing a direct connection to Jamalpur.

Regarding the issue of workers’ unpaid dues, the advisor stated that several factory owners, including those of TNZ and Mahmud Garments in Gazipur, have been ordered to liquidate assets to pay their workers. In particular, it has been decided to auction the houses of TNZ workers by May 28. Failure to comply will result in a red alert against the factory owner who has fled abroad.
