Jhalokathi, Dec 08 (V7N) - A farmer named Bacchu Mallik, 45, died after coming into contact with an electric trap set to kill rodents in Ichapasha village under Subidpur Union of Nalchity upazila in Jhalokathi on Sunday morning, December 7. The incident was confirmed by Nalchity Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge Md Abdus Salam.
According to the victim’s brother, Abu Bakar Mallik, Bacchu went to inspect his vegetable field at around 10 a.m. While walking through his land, he reportedly stepped into a live electric trap placed in an adjacent field by two local residents, Pintu Hawladar and Alauddin Jamaddar, who had set up the device to kill rodents. Bacchu died instantly after being electrocuted.
Family members initially suspected he had suffered a stroke upon finding his body lying motionless in the field. However, they later noticed an electric wire wrapped around his leg, indicating that he had been caught in the trap. Bacchu Mallik was the son of Jalil Mallik of the same village.
OC Abdus Salam said police visited the site immediately after receiving the report. An investigation is underway, and legal action will be taken based on its findings.
