Rangamati, Oct 27 (V7N) – A 45-year-old man was killed in a wild boar attack while collecting rice from his jhum field in the hills of Rajsthali upazila in Rangamati, local authorities said.
The victim, Harimani Tripura, was the son of Omaipru Tripura and a resident of Balipara area in Ward 2 of Ghilachhari Union.
His elder brother, John Tripura, said Harimani went to his hillside jhum field on Monday to collect rice when a group of wild boars suddenly descended from the hill and attacked him.
With no one nearby to help, Harimani tried to escape but was caught by the animals. He sustained severe injuries and died at the scene, his brother said.
Family members later recovered the body and took it home. John Tripura said the family had no complaints regarding the incident and was preparing to perform the funeral rites on Tuesday.
Ghilachhari Union Parishad Chairman Robert Tripura confirmed the incident, saying local residents recovered the body and informed him.
He said the remote and difficult-to-access location had made it impossible to transport the body for an autopsy. The incident had been reported to the upazila nirbahi officer and local police, he added.
