Rangamati, Sept. 10 (V7N) - A fire broke out at the Roostop Restaurant on the fourth floor of Hotel Cosmos Residential near George Court in Rangamati city early Wednesday, damaging the restaurant’s ceiling, kitchen and various equipment and furnishings.

No casualties were reported in the incident. The affected parties claimed that the fire caused losses of nearly Tk 50 lakh, although the exact extent of the damage has yet to be assessed.

According to the Rangamati Fire Service, it received information about the fire at around 5:40 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 9. Two firefighting units were dispatched to the scene and began efforts to bring the blaze under control.

The fire was later brought under control through the efforts of the firefighters.

The restaurant’s upper ceiling and several sections, including parts of the kitchen, were burned in the fire. Air conditioners, refrigerators, computers, tables, chairs and other equipment and furnishings were also damaged.

Fire Service officials initially estimated that the damage could amount to several lakh taka, but said a detailed assessment had not yet been completed.

A.K.M. Salahuddin, owner of Hotel Cosmos Residential and Roostop Restaurant, said the immediate cause of the fire was not known.

Rangamati Fire Service Sub-Officer Md. Mofizur Rahman said they received the report of the fire at around 5:40 a.m. and immediately sent two units to the scene.

He said the fire was brought under control, but its exact point of origin had not yet been determined.

The Fire Service said an electrical short circuit may have caused the fire, but the actual cause would be confirmed after an investigation.

The four-storey building houses the residential hotel on its second and third floors. The hotel has a total of 29 rooms.

No guests or employees staying at the hotel were injured in the incident.

Authorities are currently assessing the extent of the damage and investigating the exact cause of the fire.
