Bogra, Sep 04 (V7N)- A 55-year-old woman who was critically injured after being hit by a car carrying State Minister for Public Administration and Food Abdul Bari and his wife has died.

The victim, Firoza Begum, was undergoing treatment at TMSS Medical College Hospital in Bogra following the accident around 9 am on Friday. She died at about 12:30 pm.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bogra Sadar Police Station Md. Ibrahim Hossain confirmed the death. Firoza was the wife of late Nizam Uddin of Gopinathpur village in Shibganj upazila.

The accident occurred in the Haripur area, east of Kichak Boro Bridge in Shibganj, while the state minister's car was traveling from Dhaka toward Joypurhat.

According to police and local sources, Firoza was crossing the road when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle while trying to avoid her. The car then skidded off the road and fell into a nearby paddy field. Local people and pedestrians rescued the state minister and his wife from the vehicle.

Abdul Bari suffered injuries to his knees and both legs and received first aid. His wife, Nazma Begum, was unharmed. The driver of the vehicle also sustained injuries.

The state minister was traveling to Joypurhat for a two-day official visit. Following the accident, he was taken to his residence in Kalai Municipality, where he is currently staying.

Speaking about the accident, Abdul Bari said, “We were saved from the accident. The car fell from the road into the crop field and came to a stop. I have pain in my knees and both legs.”

Kalai Police Station OC Saidul Islam said the accident occurred when a pedestrian was crossing the road as the state minister's vehicle was traveling toward Joypurhat.

Police went to the scene after receiving the information and rescued those involved. The state minister sustained minor injuries and was later taken to his Kalai residence.

The police officer said the female pedestrian was critically injured in the accident and was taken to a hospital in Bogra for treatment. She later died while undergoing treatment.
