Barguna, Aug 25 (V7N)- A fishing trawler named ‘FB Barkat’ sank in rough weather in the Bay of Bengal, leaving five fishermen missing. Eight others were rescued alive after another fishing trawler reached the scene.
The accident occurred on Monday afternoon in the deep sea, around 50 kilometers southeast of Kuakata, amid rough weather and strong waves.
According to Golam Mostafa Chowdhury, president of the District Trawler Owners Association, FB Barkat had departed from Patharghata, Barguna, several days earlier for deep-sea fishing.
He said the trawler lost control in the rough conditions before sinking in the sea.
Following the accident, another fishing trawler arrived at the location and rescued eight fishermen alive.
Meanwhile, a rescue trawler has been sent to the sea by the District Fishermen Trawler Owners Association to search for the five missing fishermen.
The 13 fishermen aboard the sunken trawler are residents of different areas of Patharghata. Rescue efforts are continuing to locate those still missing.
