Pabna, July 4 (V7N) - At least three people were killed and ten others injured in a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a stone-laden truck on the Pabna-Dhaka highway in the Purbo Bongram area of Santhia upazila under Pabna district. The fatal accident occurred around 5:30 am on Friday, July 4.
According to Mostafizur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of the Madhpur Highway Police Station, a Narayanganj-bound passenger bus named Pabna Express was en route to Pabna when it collided head-on with a truck coming from the opposite direction. The impact of the collision caused the immediate deaths of three passengers on board the bus.
Local police arrived promptly at the scene, recovered the bodies of the deceased, and arranged for the injured to be transported to Pabna General Hospital for medical treatment.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the accident may have been caused due to the bus driver falling asleep at the wheel.
Of the three deceased, the identities of two victims have been confirmed by the police. They are Abed Ali, 38, son of late Hashem Molla from Shantipur village in Sujanagar upazila, and Monsur Ali, 40, son of late Iyad Ali from Kali Dorpara village in Ataikura, Santhia upazila.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident, while efforts are underway to identify the third victim and assess the full extent of injuries sustained by the survivors. Traffic on the affected highway was temporarily disrupted but later restored following police intervention.
Road safety remains a pressing concern in Bangladesh, with driver fatigue and reckless driving often cited as contributing factors to such fatal accidents.
