Washington, Oct 07 (V7N)- US Vice President J.D. Vance has said Iran must significantly reduce its uranium enrichment capacity as part of any agreement with Washington aimed at ending the ongoing conflict.

In an interview with Reuters on Monday, Vance said Tehran must take meaningful steps to address US concerns over its nuclear programme.

“If you don't want a nuclear weapon, why do you need 60 percent enriched uranium?” Vance said.

The US vice president said Washington remains interested in reaching a deal with Iran but expects concrete concessions from Tehran on its nuclear activities.

“We will not just exchange words for action,” Vance said, stressing that the United States is seeking tangible measures rather than verbal assurances.

Vance said Washington has been holding discussions with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi as part of diplomatic efforts.

However, he said the United States remains uncertain about how decisions are made within Iran's political and power structure.

“What we understand is that it's not entirely clear how their country (Iran) makes decisions,” Vance said.

The remarks come as Washington and Tehran continue diplomatic efforts to find a possible agreement over Iran's nuclear programme and broader security concerns.

The United States has continued to press Iran for restrictions on uranium enrichment, while Tehran has maintained that its nuclear programme is intended for peaceful purposes.
