New Delhi, Oct 6 (V7N)- Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was detained by police on Tuesday after she was stopped while taking part in an opposition India Bloc march toward the Election Commission office in New Delhi.

The opposition parties organized the march from the Parliament building to the Election Commission office, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar.

Leaders from several opposition parties participated in the demonstration, which was led by the Congress. Protesters accused the Election Commission of failing to address their concerns and called for Kumar to step down.

Priyanka Gandhi was among the opposition leaders detained after police prevented the protesters from proceeding toward the Election Commission office.

The detention further heightened tensions surrounding the demonstration, as opposition parties continued their campaign against the CEC.

Earlier, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Saurabh Bhardwaj made a claim that Gyanesh Kumar could resign from his position.

Bhardwaj said he had received information suggesting that the CEC might step down. However, there has been no official announcement from the Election Commission confirming any such resignation.

Security measures were tightened across parts of New Delhi ahead of the march, with police deployed around the Parliament complex and the Election Commission office.

The opposition parties have said they will continue pressing for accountability from the Election Commission and are demanding Kumar’s resignation over their concerns regarding the electoral process.
