Dhaka, Oct 05 (V7N)- World Teachers’ Day is being observed today to recognize the vital role of teachers in building societies and shaping future generations through education, knowledge and moral development.
The day is celebrated globally every year on October 5 under the auspices of UNESCO and its partners. It highlights teachers’ contributions to education and society while promoting their rights, working conditions and professional status.
World Teachers’ Day has been observed since 1994. The date commemorates the adoption of the 1966 UNESCO/ILO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers, which established important principles regarding teachers’ rights and responsibilities.
The day provides an opportunity to recognize teachers as key contributors to national development. Through classroom education, guidance and character-building, teachers help students develop knowledge, skills and values.
Bangladesh, like many other countries, observes World Teachers’ Day each year through various programs and activities. Educational institutions and organizations use the occasion to acknowledge the contributions of teachers and highlight challenges facing the profession.
UNESCO marks the day each year with a specific theme focusing on issues affecting teachers and education. The themes have addressed subjects including teacher shortages, working conditions, professional development and the importance of supporting educators.
Teachers play a central role in ensuring quality education and helping young people prepare for their future. Their work extends beyond academic instruction to include mentoring, guidance and the development of social and ethical values.
On World Teachers’ Day, governments, educational institutions and communities around the world recognize the contribution of teachers and emphasize the importance of creating supportive environments in which educators can perform their responsibilities effectively.
