Washington, Oct 02 (V7N)- Negotiations between the United States and India to finalize a bilateral trade agreement are continuing, but a deal is not expected to be concluded immediately, according to U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer.
Speaking at a briefing on Thursday , October 1, Greer said he had held “constructive discussions” with Indian Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal on the sidelines of the G20 trade ministers' meeting, Reuters reported.
Greer said officials from both countries remain engaged in regular negotiations and are working to resolve the outstanding issues preventing the agreement from being finalized.
According to the U.S. trade representative, the two sides have identified the key areas of disagreement and are now working toward solutions.
The United States and India have previously faced differences over several trade-related issues, particularly tariffs and market access. These disputes have made the ongoing negotiations a significant focus of economic relations between the two countries.
Despite the continued discussions, Greer's comments indicate that further negotiations will be required before the proposed trade agreement can be concluded.
