Washington, Sep 25 (V7N)- Journalists from CNN, MS NOW and Politico have regained access to the White House after a federal judge ordered the Trump administration to restore their press credentials.
The news organizations' reporters were allowed back onto the White House grounds on Thursday, several hours after the court issued its order.
Earlier in the day, US District Judge Timothy Kelly ordered the administration to immediately restore access to the three outlets for 14 days while their legal challenge to the ban proceeds.
The judge said the journalists were likely to succeed in showing that their press credentials had been revoked without the required due process. He also questioned the administration's justification that the restrictions were necessary for national security.
Despite the ruling, reporters from CNN, MS NOW and Politico were initially denied entry to the White House grounds on Thursday morning.
The outlets' lawyers subsequently returned to court and sought an immediate hearing, arguing that the administration was not complying with the judge's order.
Later in the day, the reporters were allowed to enter the White House complex. CNN and MS NOW reporters resumed live reporting from inside the grounds, while Politico also confirmed that one of its reporters had regained access.
The dispute began after President Donald Trump announced a ban on journalists from CNN, MS NOW and Politico, accusing the outlets of unfavorable or false reporting. The three organizations subsequently challenged the restrictions in federal court.
The court's temporary order is set to remain in effect for 14 days as the broader legal dispute over the media outlets' White House access continues.
